Request for a paid fee prior to surgery.

Our 16 yr old son is cheduled for ACL Repari surgery within 30 days.  The orthopedic clinic doing the surgery has requested payment of a fee up front prior to the scheduled surgery.  It is a sizable amount and a burdien on our family budget.  Is this a normal routine and acceptable policy of clinics that schedule surgery?

  • Hi May5health, Providers can ask you to pay your patient responsibility amount, which can be your deducible, copay, and/or coinsurnace amount depending on your coverage, prior to having services rendered. This may be what's happening here. You may want to contact the provider to verify what this charge is and see if they can make any arrangements or payment plan with you. If you'd like us to check your plan's coverage for this surgery you can send us a private message with your plan ID, contact info, and if the surgery will be done this month or after the first of the year and we'd be happy to verify that benefit coverage for you. ~ Kayla
