Just off a lengthy call with Karen, call center supervisor in TX. She informed me that BCBS suffered a "major billing issue that impact multiple BCBS of Illinois policy holders." Per your colleague, my account fell victim to the internal error.
As a result, I was incorrectly billed $332.84 in September/October of 2014 (after the account was closed). Today (April 11, 2015), I received an invoice reflecting the follow balance: ($332.84). After three calls to 800.538.8833, I learned that BCBS of IL policy is to keep funds that are overpaid - EVEN IN THE CASE OF BCBS of IL ERROR.
How many individuals were impacted by this error? How many policy holders are owed refunds that are not being proactively issued? Was this error simply a billing issue or was policy holder confidential information compromised?
Please advise ASAP.
