Don’t Take Short-cuts on Your Health

Have you ever tried a sweet potato for the holidays? Sweet potatoes or yams don’t need much fixin’ and meets the appropriate serving size of starch on your plate very well.

The rush of the holidays can catch us off guard and we can end up cutting corners wherever possible. When it comes to our health, however–taking shortcuts is the last thing you want to do. Take “minute potatoes” for example. Not only is the list of ingredients sub-par in the “fresh” category, but the extra ingredients that go into making them can be detrimental to someone living with diabetes. Why not steam sweet potatoes instead?

How do you like your sweet potatoes?

Recipe:
Steam the desired amount of sweet potatoes until soft. Peal skin.
To get an extra creamy affect, blend with a little water after steaming
Optional: add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor while blending
