Planning to switch insurance from UHC to BCBS family immediately after child is born. And UHC doesn't cover for maternity but only complications of pregnancy

I am planning to switch insurance from UHC to BCBS family immediately after child is born. And UHC doesn't cover for maternity but only complications of pregnancy. Does BCBS cover the labor, delivery, & hospital costs for both mom & child if enrolled under special enrollment period? what would be the effective date of the policy - will it be date of birth of child or will it be back dated to the first of the month during which the child is born?

  • Hello, Only eligible services received from the time the coverage became effective would be covered under a plan with us. If you did not enroll until after your child is born we would not cover any services during the pregnancy since you would not have been covered at that time. Coverage for services during labor and delivery would depend on when your coverage became effective. You can contact our sales department at 877-731-4649 and they can answer your questions regarding enrolling in a plan including what date the coverage could become effective. ~ Kayla
