Target/CVS exclusion

I am upset that Target/CVS will not be in-network for my PPO starting January 1.  How can you justify excluding one of the nation's largest pharmacy networks in a PPO?

  • I could not agree more! I am very disappointed in BCBS and this decision. You assume we have various pharmacies in our own towns to choose from and on top of that, it becomes very difficult when traveling to search for another smaller pharmacy to handle last minute issues. CVS is very convenient and we've used them for the last 30 years without any issue regardless of who our Insurance carrier is. Prime Therapeutic s is fine for planned delivery however, CVS is #1 for emergency issues and easily accessible! I'm not sure why this occurred with BCBS but I do believe BCBS should seriously reconsider this decision before next year.
  • Hello ,
Our main priority is to provide quality, affordable care to as many people as possible. Working closely with Prime Therapeutics, we continuously assess our pharmacy networks and offerings to ensure we’re keeping health care accessible for our members. As part of ongoing negotiations, CVS Pharmacy requested additional reimbursement rates for generic prescriptions in comparison to other pharmacies. To maintain affordable benefits for our members and customers, we need to obtain competitive reimbursement rates from participating pharmacies within Prime’s network. So beginning Jan. 1, 2017, CVS pharmacies and CVS pharmacies in Target stores will no longer be a part of our 2017 pharmacy network available to BCBSIL’s fully insured employer group and retail market (QHP small group and individual plan) members.- Araceli
