Lee esto en EspañolThis article is intended for members enrolled in an individual health insurance plan.

When you enrolled in your 2025 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) health plan, you started a chain reaction.* We have been hard at work for several months preparing a journey just for you.

Welcome Communication

First, if you chose electronic delivery of materials when you completed your application, we’ll send you a welcome email with a personalized video that reviews your plan in detail. This is a great opportunity to take note of your plan name and key financial details like premium payments, copay amounts, your deductible and your out-of-pocket maximum. If you chose delivery of materials by mail, a letter covering the same subjects is on its way.

Your Member ID Card

Next, you will get your member ID card. It’s good to have it with you at all times, especially when you see a doctor or fill a prescription. Key information on the member ID card includes your member ID number, customer service phone numbers, and your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum.

Your Benefit Book

Shortly after you get your member ID card, you’ll receive your benefit book. If you chose electronic delivery of materials when you completed your application, you will get an email notice that your benefit book is available to view in Blue Access for MembersSM. If you did not choose electronic delivery, it will come in the mail in a 9- by 13-inch envelope. Be sure to review and save this book. It contains detailed information about your benefits, several summary documents for easy reference and forms you may need.
