If you find yourself expecting it might seem like the only thing that you can expect with pregnancy is having a lot of changes happening to you and your body. Sure, it’s a time of excitement and planning but there are also so many questions and concerns to be answered. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois can help to answer many of those questions and offer you information every baby step along the way. No, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois can’t cure morning sickness, but we are bringing you the Special Beginnings® Program available at no additional cost. Call Special Beginnings at 1-855-740-1515 to learn if you’re eligible for the program. Our online resources support all mothers and their newborns.

Ready to start Special Beginnings? Call 1-855-740-1515 or the customer service number on the back of your insurance card between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. CT to enroll. The Special Beginnings team will contact you with a confidential questionnaire to help determine your risk level and understand what support you might need throughout your pregnancy.

Once enrolled, you can expect:

  • Personal telephone contact with program staff to address your needs and concerns and to coordinate care with your physician
  • Assistance in managing high-risk conditions such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia
  • Pregnancy risk factor identification to determine the risk level of your pregnancy and appropriate range for ongoing communication/monitoring
  • Educational materials including a complementary book about having a healthy pregnancy and baby
  • Access to online resources

Are you a registered user of Blue Access® for Members? Members who have the maternity program as part of their health plan can now access a online resource tool for expectant mothers located on Blue Access for Members. The online tool offers:

  • Videos about pregnancy and childbirth with professionals such as clinical psychologists and registered nurses
  • Educational articles to guide through the months leading up to birth and six weeks after you deliver.
  • A pregnancy calendar to help keep track of the pregnancy and what to expect in each trimester
  • A pregnancy due date calculator
